Residents' thoughts with blaze employees

Cramlington residents are praying no one was injured in the Randstad car part distributors warehouse blaze that saw massive plumes of black smoke engulf large parts of the town and stretch as far as North Tyneside earlier this afternoon.

Locals quickly became concerned when seeing clouds of smoke rise hundreds of feet into the air, which were quickly followed by traffic tailbacks throughout the town, as roads were sealed off by Police close to Nelson/Bassington Industrial Estates.

What's in a name?

As a public consultation gets underway today to ask Northumberland residents whether they would like to retain the name for Northumberland County Council or see it changed to 'Northumberland Council', some councillors email addresses have already abandoned the old name and opted for the new name, it is revealed.

Yesterday Coun Ian Tompkins, chairman of Northumberland County Council, told the Journal, "Shortly residents will be asked whether they think the new council should be called Northumberland County Council - the name of the existing County Council - or Northumberland Council."

Otters making their way to and from Big Waters Nature Reserve by passing through two Cramlington reservoirs to eventually reach the Seaton Burn, Seaton Sluice, remain healthy populations despite one being killed on the busy A189.
