Pupils at Beaconhill Primary School in Cramlington have been coming up with some inventive ways of making some money. Each class from Nursery through to Year 6 was given a £50 loan from headteacher Mrs Forbes. The classes then thought about a business idea which they could devlop in order to make as much profit as possible from their initial £50. Mrs Forbes demanded her £50 back by the end of the month along with 10% interest.

The children had some wonderful ideas for their class enterprise. Reception and Nursery held a pirate themed Summer fayre. Year 1 sold smoothies. Year 2 ran an afternoon tuck shop. Year 3 made and sold friendship bracelets and greetings cards. Year 4 set up a nail salon and made coasters and magnets to sell. Year 5 ran discos for all classes. Year 6 set up stocks on the school field and children paid to splat teachers and fellow pupils.

All in all this event was a great success with children learning an awful lot about profit and loss, as well as having lots of fun and making some money! All classes made a profit and are currenlty deciding what to spend their money on! The Enterprise of the Year trophy went to Reception and Nursery who made over £300 profit from their initial £50! We are already looking forward to next year's enterprise week.
