Children and teachers from Northburn Primary School in Cramlington joined firefighters, contractors and councillors at Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service's new base at West Hartford.

Pupils added specially prepared pieces of art and written work to the capsule which was planted in the grounds of the new HQ.

Their work was placed alongside information about the service, photographs of the site and a DVD of progress.

West Hartford is one of five new fire stations that have been built in the past year as part of the North East Fire and Rescue Authorities Private Finance Initiative.
