Lift-off for Cramlington Rockets
A rugby league team has been launched in Cramlington after a surge of interest in the game by young people.
Rugby league coach Steven Beatty started up Cramlington Rockets after seeing a big interest when he was coaching in schools.
He said: "We were based in North Tyneside but we had to move to Cramlington because of the overwhelming demand in Northumberland."
The Rockets train and play at Cramlington Sporting Club every Saturday from 10am to 1.30pm.
There are already 45 children involved in the teams for the under-10s and under-14s.
Mr Beatty, 21, is hoping to have a team for under-eights by January next year to give six and seven-year-olds the chance to play rugby league regularly.
We'd like to hear from you. Send your stories, pics and videos to northumberland@ncjmedia.co.uk
