Church celebrates with flowers
There's something especially tranquil about a stroll through Cramlington village on a sunny autumnal day that never fails to capture the old charm of its surroundings. Meandering roads, scattered copses of lime, horse chestnut and maple standing amongst characteristic stone buildings -the heart of the town for sure...
I found myself counting the different colours of stone used in the construction of the frontispiece of the Plough public house the other day. A unique mixture of old and new created from the leftovers of farm buildings demolished and reused in building the pub. Each stone ingrained with its own story about farm life.
Adjacent a few gnarled roots of mature spreading trees push through the masonry close to a section of St Nicholas church wall, which was, in a very similar fashion, painstakingly rebuilt at some time going by the different shades of stone and mortar.
3rd-6th Oct sees this resplendent Church hosting its annual Flower Festive. BBC Radio Newcastle Gardening presenter, Marian Foster, will make the official opening Friday 7:30 followed by a concert featuring Vocal Live, tickets £5.00.
Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday 12noon -6pm (7pm prayers) and Monday 10am-4pm are another marvellous opportunity for locals and visitors alike to enjoy the festival, with free entry, a feast of refreshments, raffles and stalls. Further information: 01670 716543-715260
